Covenant Health System performs greater than 100 bariatric operations annually, making the facility a high-volume hospital.  

An article released today in "Health Day News" reports on a recent University of Michigan study looking at the risks of bariatric surgery.

The study found:

"Risk of serious complications was inversely associated with average annual bariatric procedure volume."

"Serious complication rates were about twice as high (4 percent) for low-volume surgeons at low-volume hospitals than for high-volume surgeons at high-volume hospitals (1.9 percent)."
